Dusk of the Jungle
36 × 24 inches | Acrylic on canvas | 2023
Dusk of the Jungle is the second work in my diptych inspired by my Filipino heritage and the endangered wilderness of the Philippines. As daylight fades, the jungle settles beneath a veil of twilight, becoming quieter, more mysterious, and alive with the hidden rhythms of the night.
Perched high above the forest is a long-tailed macaque, resting among the branches while the last traces of light disappear beyond the trees. In the first painting of the series, the Philippine eagle soars overhead as a powerful predator. Here, the macaque represents its prey, revealing the delicate and ancient balance that connects every creature within the jungle.
Together, Dawn of the Jungle and Dusk of the Jungle explore the beauty, danger, and fragility of these threatened ecosystems. This series allowed me to reconnect with my Filipino heritage while honoring a natural world that feels both vulnerable and enchanted.
