It’s like the universe brought you here…

Rachel Roque is a Filipino-American artist raised in the shadow of West Virginia’s famed “Mothman” territory, a landscape shaped by folklore, mystery, and the quiet beauty of Appalachia. In May 2023, she received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from West Virginia University in Morgantown, West Virginia.

During the final years of her collegiate journey, Roque began to define her work through an expressionistic lens. Her paintings are intimate explorations of emotion, memory, and sentiment, often transforming personal experiences into vivid, dreamlike worlds. Rather than offering a single meaning, she welcomes viewers to wander through each composition and form their own interpretations, memories, and emotional connections.

Roque continues to explore and expand her artistic voice through unusual textures, evolving subject matter, and experimentation with different painting mediums. Exaggerated color palettes, imagined landscapes, and dreamy compositions remain at the heart of her practice, allowing familiar emotions and ordinary moments to become something a little more magical.

Thank you for taking the time to learn more about the artist and for sharing in the worlds she creates.
